01
The Challenge
Content Whale's blog brought in readers, but reading an article and picking up the phone are two different actions. Most visitors left without ever surfacing themselves as a lead, and the team had no way to turn "interested reader" into "qualified contact" without a manual follow-up chain that started too late, if it started at all.
02
The Approach
Build something readers would actually use inside the blog post itself, not a form asking for an email address in exchange for nothing. Give it a real output: a live SEO score and a direct comparison against competitors, generated from three inputs a visitor already knows off the top of their head. Pair that front-end tool with a lightweight CRM built specifically to catch what it captures, so leads land somewhere the team can actually work them, and make the whole thing embeddable without touching the site's codebase.
03
The Execution
Built the front end in React for a fast, responsive input flow and score display. Lead data writes to Supabase's realtime database, so a submission shows up in the CRM the moment it happens instead of on the next scheduled sync. Node.js handles the backend logic and score calculation, with JWT and cookie-based sessions keeping lead data secure in transit and preventing the API from being scraped or spammed. The widget ships as an iframe embed: a short code snippet Content Whale (or any client) can drop directly into WordPress, at the top or bottom of any blog post, with no custom development needed on their end. A visitor enters their website, monthly traffic, and monthly leads or conversions, and gets back an SEO score with a plain-language read (a 68 comes back as "Very Good") plus a bar-chart comparison against named competitors. Every submission routes straight into a custom CRM dashboard for tagging and follow-up.
04
The Results
Content Whale's blog posts stopped being a dead end for interested readers. Every score generated is a qualified lead with real context attached: traffic, current conversion numbers, and how they stack up against competitors, delivered in real time to the team that follows up, and deployable on any WordPress post in minutes.
